New to forum
« on: April 16, 2016, 02:41:33 PM »
Guys, I finally found me a blackbird. Already setup for hpa and with a drodzmax 3-6-1200 chip installed. Now I'm ready to start modding. I've tried reading all I can but some things are still,a mystery to me. How many volts can this chip handle? Also I've tried to to contact jimc about a barrel but no luck. I do have an older 760 barrel I could machine. Anyone know what is the best model for modding? I'm itching to start working on it. Maybe get a new board.  And thanks for having me!

Welcome to the forum. The stock boards can handle 16 V. If you ever want to upgrade to a Sergey's Board he, or I can help you out. Just send me a PM, and I will explain the different services we offer. Hopefully we will be seeing some new smooth bore barrels very soon so stay tuned for that. I've never done the Crossman mod, but there is probably someone here who has. Both forums have really helped me a ton with my mods. There are some very knowledgeable, helpful, and not to mention nice folks here.

you need to have a hardened barrel, standard barrels will wear out w/ full auto use & higher power.

So your saying the 760 barrel is too soft. I'm guessing JimC is the supplier of the hardened ones? Any more options out there? I havnt been able to contact him. I'll be waiting to see what the guys over here come up with. Thanks for the replies guys.

If your barrel alignment is not perfect, bb's will erode the breech of your barrel, hardened or not given enough time.
Make it a priority to fix alignment. One way you can easily tell if your barrel is becoming damaged is to try to unscrew it from the breech nut. If it is getting harder to unscrew, you have a problem.

As for Crosman barrel blanks, you could harden the breech yourself.... just a thought.

Plus one on getting a Sergey board and also on the alignment.

The barrels do take a beating and will wear.  I like the Crosman barrels because they are cheap.  If the end gets too much wear, saw it off, machine the end, and put it back in use.  I use as long a barrel as I can find.  You will need a means to hold the front of the gun on, though like a sleeve and a set screw.

The Crosman barrels I have don't seem to have enough carbon to actually harden, but I do not know if there has been a lot of variation in materials over the years.

If it was just the breech end that needs to be hard I could case harden the breech. I may try it until a better one comes up. And the Sergey board is next. I'm kind of diggin that ryobi battery!

I can get you in touch with Clamperbrother for the Ryobi mod. You might want to hold off on that though if 3K is not enough for you. He is working on a 24 V pack mod for Sergey's SB-4K board, but you didn't hear that from me. The mod really shoulders the gun well, and gives it great balance. If you wire it like I did you can still use the the aftermarket stocks with the battery compartment on the gun with six 14500's (if you have Sergey's Board). Here is a video of how I wired mine up with with a motor speed controller, and six 14500's in the stock. Just focus on the connections where the stock plugs into the frame, and where the frame is connected to housing. I would put the female Deans connector on the stock end for safety though.
