Sergey Board Installation and Template SB-xx

I was looking for my dimension and found this info I posted a few years ago on installing the Sergey Boards:

Here are the measurements of the button locations for 3/16" diameter buttons and the display window, all measured relative to the top of the receiver and the existing mag jack hole for anyone wanting to install their board.

I measured my version 2 and version 3 boards for window and button locations relative to the center of the jack hole on the board. (that sounded funny) The locations of the parts on the board are similar between version 2 and 3.

I did make adjustments of about .020" and .025" for the difference in the jack center relative to the center of the hole in the forearm. With the board in place, the center of the jack location on the board was above and to the left of the center of the forearm hole.

This dimensions below work for both v2 and v3 boards although the v3 board I have is thinner which places the components a little lower in the forearm. I have compensated for the difference so it works for both. I also made clearance for 3/16" diameter buttons so they don't hit the bottom of the board.

The picture looks good in full scale, but when attached and viewed in the thread it is hard to read. I will try another method.

What will the template be made of? ...print out paper?

Many people ask me if I have such tempate and I always need to persuade them that they can install the board without it. From now on they have another good assistant that will help them to get read of their fear of screwing it up.

What would really work would be something that can be printed out on printer paper, in real size. Then all you would need to do is punch out all the holes, and line up the one for the mag plug on the gun. The rest just fall into place, where you just mark them with a marker pen.

That's the plan, DUBB. I haven't had a chance to do the last step, though. I tried a PDF export, but it scaled it for some reason.

I was thinking you could fold the edge at the top and then center over the mag hole and put a piece of tape on it while you mark/drill it. I forgot who did it, but someone else also used labels. You could print this on one of them, fasten it to the gun in position, and drill away.

I figured the dimensions would at least be helpful for someone wanting to go at it right away.

Just some good stencils properly cut and centered should be done and then spray over the expose portions leaving the imprints to be drilled. Surely someone could make something with as simple as some good sturdy poster board.

I remember reading this thread a while back. I started sending out stick-on templates with every board I sell. I have even sent them to Sergeys' customers to help them out.

I think that is a great help for a first-time install.  Do you have a picture of the template you send out?

Here is one I put on housing to show people how they are supposed to be used. You just line up the edges front, top, and the back where the recess for the power switch starts.

Hopefully this will be useful for people that want to upgrade to a SB.  I included the dimensions for a reference.  Parellax, are those dimensions close to what you have on your template?

I came across a video of me machining the window and button holes for the Sergey board a while back.  It didn't take very long!  I was going to add the video here, but the file was pretty large.  I need to see if I can do the youtube thing with it.

My button holes are a little higher at .65, and my window is not as deep at .74. The buttons Sergey sends out these days need to engage the switch with just the bottom portion, or they will make contact with the board preventing them from making contact with the switch.
