$500 300 BAR Compressor Anyone?
« on: February 16, 2016, 07:32:58 PM »
I have been doing some research on these compressors, and ran across this bulk buy deal. They actually seem to be made pretty well. I'm just wondering if there is any interest here in one of these for $500 delivered if I were to bite the bullet.

Of course if anyone has any experience with these I'm all ears.

I have not seen that compressor before.

It can fill a 90ci tank to 2900psi in about 4.5 minutes.
In perspective it would take about 34 minutes to fill an 80c.f. scuba tank to that same pressure.
Also it has to use 220v. You need a special outlet for that. I also did not see any warranty info. And when it breaks down, how long will you want to wait for parts from China? (If you can find them easy enough.)

This compressor from http://www.airtanksforsale.com/ I have been eyeballing for a couple of years. It is a much better option.
It can fill a 97c.f. tank to 4500psi in about 6 hours. It runs on 110v, so you can plug it in anywhere. One year warranty.  It is more expensive at $1200, but this is where I would go personally.

Another cheaper option is to get an HPA booster like this to top off small tanks like your 90c.i But of course, this is not meant to fill large tanks.

Anyway, I guess it boils down to what's in your budget

I didn't know Joe sold a compressor. I know all of his stuff is top notch though. Thanks for the info. I also found this, and didn't pass it up. He told me he had about twenty left from the introductory shipment. I went with the base model.

I don't know that brand either, but I like what they did with the cooling system. The air dryer is not too impressive. It does not hold enough dessicant for my needs filling 80 c.f. scuba tanks, but an easy enough fix.

I really had to hunt through their videos to find anything about fill times. One of the guys said about 30 minutes for 118 c.i. tank.
That works out to about a bit over 2hours  for a scuba tank. (And I am assuming they were filling to 3000 psi, which the guy did not say, btw). That's a pretty good fill rate.
Did you find any other specs on fill times??

For about the same price as the Alpha90 for mrodair's "extreme best deal", and some better options, it sounds like a winner to me. Better peace-of-mind about parts than that Chinese compressor as well.

When are you expected to get it??

I watched all of the videos, and didn't hear anything else about fill rates other than him saying it was faster than the other ones he tried. It looked like he sold the Alfa a while back so I am taking him for his word. We will see.

I wasn't too impressed with the dryer either. That's one of the reasons I didn't spring for the upgraded package. I would like to have the automatic shut off valve though. I was thinking about making a dryer for the intake, and an inline dryer. Maybe I'll use a hydraulic cylinder for the in line dryer if the intake dryer doesn't cut it. I found a "sale" on FleaBay selling five pounds of silica gel with blue indicators in it for $28 delivered so I will have plenty to play with. Another reason I didn't go for the upgrades is they aren't including the radiator anymore.

The invoice said three to five days for processing. Hopefully it won't take them that long with mine because they don't have to do anything to it. My guess is about ten days.

Cool. I'd love to have one.

Sounds a bit loud?

It runs at 80 decibels. It's sounds just like a direct drive shop compressor. The one on Ali seems to use the same pump, but it's 220 V where mine is 110 V making it a little more convenient. It also has the automatic cutoff switch that I didn't opt for. Here is the video I got the link from. The manufacturer downgrades the fill times for some reason.

I have been using my compressor more since I found out the proper amount of oil to use in the crankcase. I was having problems with moisture, and have plans to make a condensation chamber for it out of hydraulic tubing. I just need to find the right fittings. There is a Granger not too far away, I just really try to avoid going to Charlotte. The parts I am having trouble with is the drain, and how to seal the ends of the tube. Does anyone have any ideas?

In the mean time I have been topping off my 90/4500's as high above the compressor as the hose will allow with no problems. I think I would run into moisture issues if I tried to fill my scuba tank though. It saves time having a full scuba tank for quickly filling my bottles, and then using the compressor to top them off.

Anyway the plan is to have a tube about four feet long mounted vertically. I am planning to run the air hose to the side of the tube a few inches from the bottom. From there the air will travel up the tube cooling, and condensing the water out onto the inside wall of the tube. The water will drain down past the air inlet to the bottom of the tube where there will be a petcock drain. I don't really want to have another tube next to it that the air goes into, and continues the process if I can get away with it. I will probably just run a micro bore high pressure line from the top. Any suggestions are welcome.
